I am now officially in love with google.
I mean not faulting the gesture, but unfortunately some folk don’t get a spiffy rainbow.
“More than 30 same-sex couples, in suits and flowing wedding gowns, gathered this morning in Millennium Park to be among the first in the state to enter into civil unions.
“Gov. Pat Quinn, who signed the civil unions bill into law earlier this year, spoke before the ceremonies began, saying: “This was one of the most important bills Illinois has passed in anyone’s memory.”
“This is indeed a historic day, a special day that all of us in the land of Lincoln can celebrate,” Quinn said. “There are all kinds of families in Illinois, but we are all the family of Illinois.”
——-
I wish I had known about this — I’m in Chicago this week, and I definitely would have driven downtown to see this! In related news, my parents’ heterosexual marriage has not been destroyed by the presence of civil-unionized couples in the same state. Shocking!

(HEART-BREAKING & TRUE.)
via comingonstrong, flygurls, daretobeblack, ethiopienne: “This is the most heartbreakingly true thing I’ve seen in a while. Self-hate is a hell of a drug. Thank you, slave psychology.”
All this reminds me, I bet y’all forgot about Hysteria, the movie set to come out some time this year (in the UK) starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and billed as “a romantic comedy about the invention of the vibrator”, didn’t you?
I’ve been wanting to see this as well!
As expected, lawmakers have passed the bill that would make it illegal to talk about gays in Tennessee schools. Or, as George would have us say, “to talk about Takeis.”
There was just one minor tweak before they passed it: now, it only applies to K-8.
So, the very thin silver lining is that at least it won’t apply to high schoolers.
Because to discuss Ellen DeGeneres and Tchaikovsky with anyone who has not yet reached 9th grade is to put them in mortal danger.
